At a time when the nation is struggling with the philosophies and details of how to care for the health of its citizens, it is refreshing to see what the Bible portrays as the ultimate universal health-care plan.

The best way to treat illness is to remove the problem. In the midst of a highly symbolic context, Isaiah 33:24 removes the problem by stating, "And the inhabitant shall not say ‘I am sick.’" With sickness gone during the in-coming Kingdom on Earth, it seems that healthcare will be a moot point!

However, there is more lovely detail. For instance, in Revelation 21:4, John makes it clear that this lack of sickness will be accompanied by a lack of mental sadness, depression, or any state-of-mind requiring consolation.  Included is the removal of death itself: “God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.” (There goes the pharmaceutical industry!) Not only will these maladies cease from coming on the populace, but those which have already occurred will be REMOVED. Note the words of Isaiah 35:6—

“…the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped…
The lame man shall leap as a deer, and
the tongue of the dumb shall sing.”

Perhaps equally encouraging to many of us is the promise that the symptoms of old age will disappear. As Job 33:25 states it, “His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s; he shall return to the days of his youth.” (There goes the cosmetics industry!)

All of this will not only be the lot of mankind alive when the Kingdom begins, but it will be the lot of all now dead. On a much larger scale, and with far greater results, we will again here the echo of Jesus when he commanded, “’Lazarus, come forth.’ And he that was dead came forth.”  (John 11:43) The soon-to-be greater events are shown in John 5:28 and 29:  “Marvel not at this, for the hour is coming in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice and shall come forth.” Following this promise, Jesus shows that two kinds of resurrections will occur. One will be for those who have been his faithful disciples and who have, therefore, undergone judgment during THIS lifetime. Their resurrection will be as spirit beings and is said to be “unto life.” But this group constitutes a small fraction of mankind.

The remainder (nearly everyone!) are said to have a resurrection “of judgment” (here on earth). [The King James Version is a HORRIBLE mistranslation:  “resurrection of damnation”!]  The thought is, all who have not been tried and faithful disciples of Jesus during THIS lifetime, will have their opportunity to be judged worthy of life ONCE THE KINGDOM IS FUNCTIONING.

Isaiah 35 also comments on this. Beginning in verse 8 it shows the upward (toward eternal life) “highway” which will be opened up for mankind.  It will lead to “holiness” (perfection). While no one will attain that perfection without desire and effort, “It will be for those”—for the travelers on it who need only to WANT to gain life. It will be SO SIMPLE for them that they “shall not err therein.” There will be no traps, deceptions, or threats (“no lion…nor ravenous beast”)!  But this “highway” is expressly established for those returning from the dead:

“And the ransomed of the Lord shall return
with songs and everlasting joy; they shall obtain
joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall
flee away.”
(There goes the funeral industry!)

While many problems we have with our metal well-being can rightly be attributed to disease, nutrition/malnutrition, stress, and lack of good information, some have been plagued by mental disease from an unseen, external, source: demons.

The account in Matthew 8 is only one example, but it contains an interesting expression in verse 29. It shows that the forces of evil in the spirit realm, which delight in playing with the minds of humans, KNOW that the day is coming when such activity will be prohibited. The thought is a “torment” to the demons of which they would apparently prefer not to be reminded! But the fact is this: harmful external influences on the mind is soon to be a thing of the past. For this also we can thank God. (There goes the psychiatric profession!)

How does FREE sound? These days it sounds suspicious!  But that new government (Isaiah 9:6) will provide it without cost. As Revelation 22:17 states it, “And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” (There goes the insurance industry!)

During the days of Jesus, “samples” of Kingdom benefits were given to the disciples then alive. Luke 10:19 is one such incidence. Jesus said to them, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” A prophecy of similar import for the Kingdom is made in Isaiah 11:8 and 9 where it is promised that the “sucking child shall play on the hole of the viper, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den.” But nothing “shall hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain” (symbol of Kingdom). There will be simply no cause for concern. Can we even imagine how this will put our minds and bodies at ease?

Additionally, all of the nutrients needed for healthy (and eternal) living will abound. Read Psalm 67 in its entirety. It summarizes all presented in this article. Verse 6 stipulates, “Then shall the earth yield her increase.” It is nearly impossible to conceive of the bounties implied in those words. No blight, no insect infestations, no lack of water, no environmental challenges—the bounties of good food will invigorate a population the majority of whom never have had a good meal.

A weary world will react with delight.  Isaiah 14:7 puts it this way:

“The whole earth is at rest

and is quiet:

They break forth into singing!”

Hold on!  It’s coming very soon.  Even thinking about it is healthy.
